Another Reason for a Good Night Sleep

Recently, the Washington Post published an article about the importance of a good night’s sleep. We looked into research linking lack of sleep to higher BMI and higher risk for a number of health problems.

Sleeping improperly or unhealthy at night causes health problems like cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Due to exhaustion, people may also have high blood pressure or don’t pay attention to the meeting.

People who sleep less than 7 hours a night are significantly more likely to be obese, especially those over the age of 32. This is due to a number of studies that have shown this correlation, such as the school Nurses Health Study which has shown that people who don’t get enough sleep face increased risk for cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Other research groups scattered around the country have found clues that might help explain the associations between sleep and disease. These other research groups discovered indications that sleep disruption affects crucial hormones and proteins that play a role in these diseases.

The Harvard Nurses study provides evidence for a number of health risks, such as an increased risk of death among those who sleep less than six hours a night. Now we are starting to see what happens in the body when you don’t get enough sleep.

Sleep is important

Learn how inadequate sleep affects how we function

When you’re running a sleep deficit, your body is in pro-survival mode, which increases cortisol and blood pressure. This can lead to increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, or inflammation.

According to research, if you don’t get enough sleep, your body will produce inflammatory markers that can create low-grade inflammation leading to cardiovascular events and a shorter life span. Luckily for you, naps can help counteract the negative effects of sleep loss.

Daniel F. Kripke of the University of California at San Diego argues that, although there have been some studies which point to a correlation between lack of sleep and negative effects on human health, those findings don’t tell the whole story.

What to do before bed

Life expectancy has increased very slowly in the last 20 years, and many countries are living longer than we are.

Out of the few countries that have worse health than us, only two are for women. Mexico and Poland have worse relative ill-health than the US. Among men, the US only has worse health then Hungry, Mexico, Portugal, Turkey, Canada and The Czech Republic.

The improved health of our abilities to “treat” and “manage” problems is not a sign of better health because we are able to deal with them longer.

If you want to live a healthy life, the focus should be on staying well, not getting better when you are already in poor condition.

One more reason to get a good night’s sleep

Sleep is essential to our well-being. When we sleep, it gives the body time for repairs and regeneration. If you don’t get adequate sleep each day, you may be more inclined to neglect the other needs of your health too.

See why a good sleep is important

A good night’s sleep is important for many reasons. It helps you to focus during the day, provides your body with the rest it needs to heal, and can even improve your mood. A lack of sleep can have the opposite effect, making you feel cranky and more prone to accidents. That’s why it’s so important to get enough rest every night.
